Monday 29th January – ski ***** Morzine in the Alps – sunny.

5 hours 45 mins out, 35.22 knots max., 40 miles covered.

Woke again to the perfect mountain day, blue skies and light airs, after breakfast we pack a baguette then Dan, Mag and I head to the cable car to buy our lift passes at 10 o clock. We get 5 hours for 38 Euro’s while Dan gets a day and its up the mountain. Dan has to take something back to Jay in the apartment so to break ourselves in we do a nice long blue right back to the apartment. Dan goes to the see Jay quickly while Mag and I go up the chair nearest our accommodation. I try the steep red while Mag does the pretty tree lined blue again then we met up with Dan and ski over to Les Gets. We find a nice blue path, a bit flat in places but with stunning views down into Les Gets. We ski past the road where we stayed when we came here a couple of years ago. The piste speeds up as we ski down to Les Gets, ignoring the cable car we take the super-fast Chavannes Express high up to the only area that was open when we were here last and there was no snow! There is some great skiing to be had up here with some lovely fast blues and reds all the way back to Les Gets, we did both the blue and reds before heading over to the large bowl to the left! There are four lifts here and some great runs. We were heading for the far-right lift to take us to the top of the Pointe De La Turche but I misjudged it and to save us walking uphill we went up the Ranfoilly Express the newest lift we have ever used with a mass of flashing light and super comfy seats. Dan is skiing like a demon on his super-fast piste skies it’s like he has never been away and is loving it:) Dan then gets a text from Jay who was out walking up the mountain with Rob and Arlo near where we had our picnic yesterday saying she had slid down a piste on her bottom and was stuck in the snow! Rob with Arlo in a sling and his dodgy knee could not follow her so we said we would get there as soon as possible. That was easier said than done as we were miles away and not knowing the resort that well we got a bit lost going way too far to the right but we met up with Rob and Arlo in the end. Then Dan soon found Jay and helped her back up the slope with no harm done, he is her hero:) Dan with a bit of an achy knee decides to call it a day and walk Jay back while we have our picnic with Rob and Arlo in the lovely sunshine. Getting tired now and our 5 hours nearly up we head down and discover Les Zouzous (zone enfants) a tree lined windy run full of model animals, birds and imaginary creatures like unicorns, pixies, elves and even a large Yeti – great fun. Then its back down to the apartment door across some bumpy, icy offpiste, Mag said she won’t do that again! Then it’s time for a well-deserved cuppa, bread and jam, relax as its Elaine and Emma’s turn in the kitchen making delicious pasta followed by chocolate mousse. Apart from Jays misadventure a second good day in the mountains :)
